Introduction

Trevor Nunn is an accomplished British theatre director. He has served as the artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre, and the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. He is known for directing Classical drama as well as large-scale musicals.

Nunn was born in Ipswich, England in 1940. His father was Robert Alexander Nunn, a cabinetmaker. His mother Dorothy May Parker trained as a seamstress. Nunn married Janet Suzman, an actress, in 1969 (Suzman performed in many of Nunn’s early directorial efforts). They divorced in 1986. Nunn’s second marriage was to another actress, Sharon Lee-Hill; their relationship lasted from 1986 to 1991. In 1994 Nunn married for a third time, this time to actress Imogen Stubbs. They separated in 2011.
