Text

Hey, Nancy, cheer up! I don’t know what the big deal is. I think adoption is just another part of who I am. Like having dimples or being left-handed. Or having perfect pitch.
(Recites like dialogue:)
BESIDES, OUR PARENTS HAD CHOICES
TO SEARCH FOR A BABY OR NOT.
WITH WHAT MINE WENT THROUGH TO ADOPT ME
BOY, THEY HAD TO WANT ME—A LOT.
YEAH, MY PARENTS LOOKED AND LOOKED;
THEY DIDN’T TAKE ANYONE.
THEY FOUND ME, AND THEY WERE HOOKED—
THEIR HEART-AND-SOUL BABY SON.
AND THOUGH TIME COULD HAVE PROVED OTHERWISE,
THEY TELL ME THAT IN THEIR EYES...

THEY CHOSE RIGHT! THEY CHOSE ME!
FROM HUNDREDS OF KIDS AROUND THE WORLD,
I FIT THEM TO A TEE.

THEY MADE THE ROUNDS AND WAITED—
THEIR SEARCH WAS LONG AND GREAT;
THEY TELL ME IT WAS FATED,
‘CAUSE I WAS WORTH THE WAIT.
