So I’d done my job better than I had a right to expect. Well, give him some credit, too. He’s right--I was in a fix when I arrived in Paris. I walked from the airport into town, then I located, by blind groping, the Chinatown district

But finally, at my urging Rene got a job as a courier, handling sensitive documents. He'd photograph them for me, and I'd pass them on to the Chinese embassy.
