Your Aunt Jen and I... um... never had children. But the last couple months, I feel like I’ve learned what having one would be like. I also now know what it must feel like for a parent to let go because when I see Maddie so happy with her sister, it hurts and feels good at the same time. Maddie is extraordinary in ways I couldn’t have dreamed, and in a relatively short time, I’ve grown to love Maddie as if she were my own daughter. I didn’t think that would be possible a few months ago. And if I adopt Maddie, we’re only going to get closer over time as I watch her grow into a young woman. Then, she’ll be off to live her life, and I’ll be alone again like I have been for the past four years. What I’m saying is that if Maddie picks her sister, it may be better for everyone.
