Good evening, parents and patrons, and welcome to our production of “The Buzz Beyond,” as directed by senior Roxanne Brooks. I am Miss Riggs, the drama teacher, and I want to thank each and every one of you for coming to support the arts on this, our opening night. (pause for applause) While, as you know, live theatre is wonderful and exciting, it also comes with unique challenges. Unplanned circumstance can force change to a carefully rehearsed show. Unfortunately, such a circumstance has happened to our production this evening, and the lovely Noel Quick will not be performing her role as Hazel the maid. Instead, in her place, will be senior Christy Cameron. Christy is a veteran of our stage, and has just tonight been asked to step into the role of Hazel. As a result, she will be reading from script while on stage. I’d like to ask you to forgive us this faux pas, and to welcome warmly Christy and the rest of our cast as you enjoy “The Buzz Beyond.” (pause for applause) Our curtain will rise momentarily.
