Context
Trigorin comes across Nina in the grounds of the estate and informs her that his plans have changed--he is to leave the house that day. The pair remark on how they would dearly love to swap places--Nina wants to experience true fame and success, while Trigorin wants to remember what is is like to be nineteen again. Nina's naive idealism means that she cannot understand why Trigorin should turn his back on his own success.
