Context
Four friends--Jha, Rha, Sha, and Cha--have gathered together to play a folklore ball game by the border wall. They all live in the local town, where Jha is the Mayor, Rha is the Sheriff, Sha is the Principal of the school, and Cha is the Pastor of the church. Before realizing that they have seen the mythical and legendary beast, the group debate whether what they saw – if they say anything – could be true.

(The group looks beyond the audience. They see something.)
CHA What is that?
RHA Sh!
SHA Is that-?
RHA Sh!
JHA Who are you?!
RHA I said SH! What is wrong with you?!
SHA Look! It went into the ground.
(Beat.)
CHA Was that the…beast?
RHA I don’t want to hear that kind of talk. Okay? No one has actually seen one of those things.
CHA No one alive.
SHA They leave evidence in the town every night.
RHA I know they exist, I’m saying they don’t appear to us.
CHA We have curfew for a reason.
RHA (Forced spirit) Let’s forget about it and get back to Beast Ball. We really should rename it something else.
SHA Why? It’s part of the story.
CHA Only half the story.
RHA I don’t want to hear it.
SHA You’re scared.
RHA No, I’m not.
CHA (Scary story time) On the day of the final tournament, the town rivals were tied when the beast came from nowhere-
RHA (Covers her/his ears, shuts her/his eyes and says to herself/himself quietly) La la la la la la la la la la la la la.
CHA -and began to run toward everyone. When everybody got home, they heard the crackling. And everyday, it would return, keeping everyone inside their homes.
SHA It wasn’t long before the town people noticed that if they made loud enough noises, the beast would keep away. So everyone began walking with a ball and that was when Beast Ball was invented.
CHA But until this day, the beast still lurks… (Pokes Rha)
SHA …and stalks… (Pokes Rha)
CHA …and attacks!
(Sha and Cha tickle Rha and s/he jumps in a fright.)
RHA What is wrong with you two?!
(Sha and Cha laugh.)
RHA And you know we shouldn’t even be talking about it.
SHA Think it’ll come back?
CHA Something is telling me it will.
RHA This isn’t funny.
CHA Relax, it was probably something else.
RHA You think?
SHA But definitely something.
RHA You two are demented.
CHA Jha? Tell her/him everything is all right.
(They wait for Jha to answer. S/he remains silent.)
RHA But seriously, none of us have seen it before. So we aren’t qualified to make an educated guess. Right? Sha?
SHA Sounds logical to me.
RHA Cha?
CHA I’ll put my faith in that.
RHA Jha?
JHA (Beat) It was the beast.
