Context
Sir Patrick Cullen, a physician, has come to congratulate his friend and protege, Sir Colenso Ridgeon, on his success as a doctor and on his new knighthood. The men discuss the wonders of science and discovery, as Sir Patrick is a very practical, analytical man. Ridgeon still looks to the older doctor for guidance and wisdom, and the men engage in a philosophical discussion about medicine and the necessity of experimentation, sometimes at the expense of the patient. SIR PATRICK.
