Context
King Edward of England and his army have liberated the Castle Roxburgh from the Scottish army, and in the process, King Edward has fallen in love with the Countess, wife of the Earl of Salisbury. While his lords, Audley and Derby attempt to update the King about their preparations for the coming war in France, the King is too love-sick to pay attention. Finally, the Countess herself enters, and the king asks her to become his mistress.
