Context
After deciding not kill his uncle, as he wants him to die in sin rather than repentance, Hamlet goes to see his mother. He confronts her about her relationship with Claudius, believing it to be incestuous and disgusting. He admits to her that he has been feigning madness in order to prove his uncle's guilt. When he hears a noise behind the curtain, Hamlet believes Claudius is eavesdropping and plunges his sword into the curtain. However, it is Polonius, not Claudius, who is hiding there.
