Context
Earlier at dinner, Mom confessed to her husband that she feels anxious and panicky, but doesn’t know why. Rather than trying to understand or help her, Dad offered trite comfort, and then suggested she make drinks and meet him upstairs. Just about to go up, Mom turns back and looks to the air, seeking comfort and wisdom from the Female Voice that she regularly talks to when she feels alone. Throughout the scene, the Female Voice remains offstage.
