Context
It’s been quite a few months since Tom left Beth, and during that time, both couples have slowly trickled out of one another's lives. Tom is busy with his new girlfriend and their travels and time together. Beth, who relied heavily on Gabe and Karen shortly after the breakup has disappeared into her own activities to cope. Karen and Gabe have been left reflecting on their own relationship, and whether or not it is as breakable as Tom and Beth’s turned out to be. In the scene following this one,
