Context
Henry and several members of his 38th Street Gang have been arrested for the Sleepy Lagoon Murder, which they didn’t commit. Henry is alone in a cell, waiting. He calls out to El Pachuco, a symbolic representation of the zoot suit and pachuco style. El Pachuco is a trickster, and while Henry wants to do the right thing, be patriotic, and has even enlisted in the Navy, El Pachuco stokes Henry’s suspicions of the police and white people.
