Context
The Infanta has been instrumental in encouraging a relationship between Don Rodrigo and Chimène, and every day she requests a conversation with Chimène,, to learn if the relationship has progressed. She instructs a Page to bring Chimène to her. Although she thinks only of their happiness, it is this happiness which brings pain to the Infanta.
