Context
Don Fernando, the King, is praising Don Rodrigo for his valiant victory in the battle against the Moors. Rodrigo led hundreds of men in a victorious battle, where he captured two kings. He wishes to bestow a great honor on Don Rodrigo, and he can think of no greater honor than to give him the title given to him by the two captured kings: ‘the Cid’, meaning ‘Lord’. He asks Rodrigo to tell him the story of what happened in the battle, and Rodrigo obliges.
