Context
From the shore, Miranda has been watching a ship caught in a violent storm. She turns to her father, suspicious that he is the cause of this tempest, and begs him to stop. She expresses sympathy for those onboard, and Prospero comforts her by promising that no one came to any harm. He finally relents to her request to know their past, and he tells the story of how they came to be on the island.
