Nadia is a former war correspondent who has taken up a teaching position at Yale University. In this scene, she is holding a meeting with Terri Scholes, a student who has written a nihilistic essay on the Iraq war. Nadia worked as a war correspondent in Iraq, and holds this topic very close to her heart. She is outraged at Terri’s viewpoint and confronts her about the content of her essay.
