LAURA
Promise me. I don’t want trouble anymore. She accuses me of trying to come between you. Seems she doesn’t want to see me with you and she doesn’t want you to see me without her.
(Laura’s voice rises and eyes widen.)
SHE CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. Either come out with you or stay home and you come out like you did today.
PETER
That’s because she wants me all to herself. She’s obsessed. You don’t know her like I do and what she’s capable of.
LAURA
Dad, it’s your life. It’s ridiculous. I’m just so sick of the nonsense.
PETER
Well, just try to bear with me. Do it for me, will you?
LAURA
What does it look like I’ve been doing all along? I’m sick of walking on eggs. It’s not right. We both know she doesn’t want a relationship with me.
PETER
Give it time. She’s wonderful if you get to really know her. She just wants respect.
