CORINDA
Corinda Taylor!
(holds out her hand) Enchantée.
(COREY limply shakes CORINDA’s hand.)
COREY
Nice to meet you.
(NOVA and JINX enter in a flurry of noise and excitement. All three performers cross to the dressing station(s) and touch up makeup, change small costume items, fix hair, etc, leaving COREY and REESE watching, fascinated.)
NOVA
Great show, Corinda.
CORINDA
Thank you, honey.
JINX
The crowd really loved you.
CORINDA
Don’t they always?
(laughs with JINX and NOVA)
What’s not to love?
NOVA
That’s what I always say.
JINX
When Corinda Taylor takes the stage, the audience knows something’s about to go down.
NOVA
So, buckle up, baby!
CORINDA
I’m gonna take you for a ride!
(CORINDA, JINX, and NOVA laugh)
REESE
So, what kind of performers are you?
COREY
(slugs REESE in the arm) Reese! Don’t be rude.
CORINDA
She’s not being rude. Trust me, I know we’re a long way from Broadway.
COREY
So what kind of show do you put on?
CORINDA
Have you ever heard of cabaret?
COREY
Isn’t that a super old movie?
CORINDA
(laughs) Honey, you have a lot to learn.
(puts her arm around COREY) Cabaret is a style of performance that combines music, theatre and dance.
REESE
Oh, like they do in high school.
(to COREY) You know…that thing Mrs. Carlson dragged us to for extra credit? Fiddler on the Moon or something.
CORINDA
You mean Fiddler on the Roof, and no, honey, that’s not cabaret at all. That’s just plain old musical theater.
(getting progressively more animated with each description)
Cabaret is a pageant…a spectacle…a phenomenon!
COREY
And which do you do? Music, theater, or dance?
CORINDA
Corinda Taylor does it all, honey.
NOVA
You should hear her voice.
JINX
She sings like an angel.
NOVA
And her dancing?
JINX
RiRi* wishes she had moves like that.

NOVA
She’s a diva.
JINX
A goddess.
NOVA
A queen!
CORINDA
Now, now, girls, if you keep talking like that it’s going to go straight to my head.
(pauses and looks at JINX and NOVA)
I didn’t say you had to stop.
(CORINDA, JINX and NOVA all laugh)
