Henrietta Leavitt arrived at Harvard University to work with Edward Pickering - while she thought she would be able to do hard science and use the telescope, she learned that she will only be recording data that the male scientists photographed using the Great Refractor. Peter Shaw, Dr. Pickering’s assistant, keeps visiting the women’s office to do “rounds,” but Williamina believes that the nervous young man is observing more than their work.
