Context

Text

The next morning. The Lady Marmalade. LANCE and STEPHEN are already seated. SAVANNAH and ASHLEY enter. Savannah has on a sugar plum fairy costume and Ashley is clad as a nutcracker.

 STEPHEN

We just got a call from the airline. It looks like flights will resume tonight as long as you can get to the airport. The main streets in Spartanburg are supposed to be clear this afternoon. But rural areas are a different story.

SAVANNAH

It's a good thing we have a tank at our disposal.

LANCE

You just have to promise me you'll tell all the children on the plane y'all just flew in from the North Pole.

ASHLEY

Very funny.

MISS MARGARET enters very upset.

MARGARET

I just can't believe this is happening.

ASHLEY

What's wrong Miss Margaret?

MARGARET

Lettie Mae Jenkins just called and told me that Captain Earl said that the Salvation Army is just brimming with toys from the toy drive but the poor folks can't pick them up because the roads are closed. I can't imagine all those poor children waking up to no presents on Christmas morning.

LANCE

We could use the tank and deliver them. Clearly Ashley and Savannah are dressed for the occasion and ready to go spread Christmas cheer.

MARGARET

That would be so kind but there's another problem. None of

the volunteers who wrap the presents can get over to the

Salvation Army. They have to be wrapped and labeled. A lot of the presents are clothes for foster children and they have specific sizes and things like that.

ASHLEY

Well I'm sure Dewayne over at the Waffle Barn would let us use his counter to wrap presents on.

SAVANNAH

I'm sure with a little convincing we could get him to bend on his two to a booth rule while we're there.

MARGARET

You'd actually spend your Christmas Eve wrapping all those toys and taking the tank around to deliver them?

ASHLEY

It's like Lance said. We're already dressed for it. And you wouldn't have to make breakfast this morning. We could just grab something at The Waffle Barn.

MARGARET

Y'all wouldn't mind?

ASHLEY

(Too eager) Not at all!
