Context
David Henry Hwang (DHH) is a playwright who has created a new play entitled Face Value, which is a critique of casting white actors in yellow face roles. DHH finds himself in a tricky situation when he casts Marcus G. Dahlman to play the lead Eurasian role, only to realize after the casting that Marcus is not Asian. When Hwang discovers that Marcus is white, he invents a story that Marcus has Siberian-Jewish ancestry to save himself from a P.R. disaster. However, DHH finds the situation

MARCUS: Hey bro!
DHH: Don’t give me that, “Hey bro” s@!t.
MARCUS: Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend..
DHH: Well, you are. I mean, this whole thing you’re doing, it’s really offensive.
