The lights go come up on EMILY and ANA opens another folder and reads...
OFFICER SMITH: How are you doing Emily? Do you like your room?
EMILY: Yes, sir. You're not going to call my parents, are you?
OFFICER SMITH: We did. Why?
EMILY: No, I can't leave Sonny. He loves me.
ANA: Does he?
EMILY: He is the only one who ever has.
OFFICER SMITH: Emily, I have information that Sonny paid money to your uncles for you. Do you remember that?
EMILY: Yes, but Sonny bought me because I'm special.
OFFICER SMITH: Does he say he's your boyfriend?
EMILY: Yes.
ANA: Emily, can you tell me your story?
EMILY: Story?
OFFICER SMITH: When you were first abused?
EMILY: (Slow and tentative) My uncles began doing stuff to me when I was eight. They began selling me shortly after that out of my parents' home.
OFFICER SMITH: And your parents? How did this go on without your parents doing something?
EMILY: Well, my mom and dad worked a lot. My little brother was always sick, so they had to be with him in the hospital. My little sister and I would stay with my uncles at night and on the weekends. They would put cartoons on for my little sister and take me in a back room. They said if I told anyone, they would beat me and start hurting my little sister.
OFFICER SMITH: Did you know any of the men who came to see you? Did you recognize anyone from your town?
EMILY: A lot of the men were from our church.
ANA: You went to church?!
EMILY: Every Sunday, either with my parents or with my uncles. A lot of the men I saw at church came by.
OFFICER SMITH: And when did you meet Sonny?
EMILY: Last year, I met him at a hotel. He told me I was pretty and that he wanted to be my boyfriend. He bought me some really pretty things, and he was nice to me.
ANA: Then he gave money to your uncles for you.
EMILY: Yes, I guess.
The lights fade out on EMILY. ANA, unable to keep her composure, breaks down and cries at her desk.
