CRISTINA: Thank you officer. He won't do it again. He just didn't know where he was going.
JAVIER: Why didn't you tell me this was a private road?
CRISTINA: You didn't ask.
JAVIER: Cristina!
CRISTINA: Okay, alright, get back to the main road. Then make a left. County Road 220 will be on the right, and I'm certain you know your way home that way.
JAVIER: Fine. (Begins to drive) Why are you being so difficult lately?
CRISTINA: (Sarcastic) Me? Difficult? Whatever do you mean?
JAVIER: Stop it, Cristina. Talk to me.
CRISTINA: I'm just...I don't know.
JAVIER: Please, Cristina. (Silence) Please.
CRISTINA: Raquel just had her baby.
JAVIER: That's great news.
CRISTINA: Is it?
JAVIER: Cristina, please don't be jealous of your cousin.
CRISTINA: She doesn't even want more kids...and here I am and I can't even...never mind.
JAVIER: Adoption is just around the corner. Once we finish our classes. Soon, we'll have children.
CRISTINA: It's not the same. Doesn't it bother you? Wasn't having kids one of your courses in seminary? "Fruit bearing 101."
JAVIER: Cristina.
CRISTINA: I mean teenagers get it on in the back seat of a car and get pregnant in two seconds. Me. Barren. You know what it's like in my family to not have kids. A Latina woman without a little tribe. It's just unheard of.
JAVIER: ¡Ay! Cristina.
CRISTINA: People who want kids can't have them and those that don't want them have a million. Tell me Pastor Ramirez, how does God see fit in giving people children?
JAVIER: Remember Abraham and Sarah? God promised them children in their old age and God fulfilled His promise.
CRISTINA: Really? You're going with the old man who was ejaculating dust?
JAVIER: Cristina!
CRISTINA: You couldn't think of a better story to go with.
JAVIER: Abraham was the father of nations!
CRISTINA: Nations that to this day are fighting each other.
JAVIER: Point made.
CRISTINA: Well, I don't want to be 90 when I have a baby. I want to be dead when I'm 90.
JAVIER: (Realizes something) Ah! I know. Hannah. Hannah prayed and God opened her womb and gave her Samuel and then a bunch of other kids.
CRISTINA: I've prayed. We've prayed...for years. So God is either on a long vacation or doesn't care.
JAVIER: God doesn't work that way. He's not Santa Claus.
CRISTINA: Okay then, how does he work? And if you say "in mysterious ways" I swear I'll jump out of this car right now.
JAVIER pulls the car over.
CRISTINA: What are you doing?
JAVIER: Stopping the car so you can get out. (Parks.) Cristina?
CRISTINA: What?
JAVIER: I'm sorry that life isn't going in the direction you had hoped, but we have so much to be grateful for. Trust me when I say, I love you and I plan to go through all of this with you. Do you understand?
CRISTINA: I guess.
