Context
In this early scene, Lena and Martha individually describe their moments from their earlier lives on the reserve. Martha is a keen bingo player and her social life revolves around the game. Meanwhile, her daughter Lena is frustrated by the confines of the reserve and life with her mother. In the midst of their musings, Babe offers input on the fragility of life and the power of words when the body is gone. None of the women speak directly to each other, instead they speak out to the audience.
