Mina, a middle-class British woman, has summoned psychiatrist Dr. Seward to examine her best friend, Lucy. Dr. Seward was one of Lucy’s suitors vying to marry her, but he realized she has affections for someone else and threw himself into his work in a fit of despair. Now, Lucy has become weak and pale because of a mysterious illness. She thinks she has been dreaming about howling dogs and feeling her soul leave her body, but she has in fact been sleepwalking.
