Context
At this moment in the play, Josie has spent the night cradling Jim’s head on her breast. When he wakes up he is embarrassed and confused, and makes to leave. Before he does, he blurts out his love for Josie and thanks her for caring for him during the long night. She looks after him sadly as he goes. Meanwhile, Hogan has been hiding in the hay barn, waiting for Tyrone to leave. Josie now knows that Phil lied to her to encourage her to try and seduce Jim, and she is full of quiet rage.
