Context
Ann Johnson has left the African Theatre Company both because of her frustration with her part as well as her heartbreak over Jimmy Hewlett. The manager of the company, Billy Brown, has invited Ann to come back to the company, and now Papa Shakespeare takes on his role of the griot and mediator to bring Ann and Jimmy to reconciliation, both for their emotional union as well as the success of the company.

Papa Shakespeare: Come Annie, here’s Jimmy. He wants to speak with you … He is so glad to see you, that he is speechless just now … He's gettin' ready to talk now ... Listen carefully, he is about to speak.
