Context

Text

(Judith, Christine, Irene and Mary enter carrying more stuff for their stalls, the Vicar follows trying to get them to keep the place tidy.)

Vicar. "I do wish you would put the items out on the tables in a tidier manner, it looks such a mess."

Judith. "There's no point Vicar, once the "Hoards" arrive they will be a mess anyway, its' why they call it a "Rummage Sale" and believe me your parishioners do love a good rummage."

Vicar. "Still, it would look better if the stalls were tidy, at least to begin with."

Judith. "Okay Vicar, but believe me it will be a waste of time."

(The Vicar leaves the room.)

Irene. "We're not really going to tidy things up are we"?

Judith. "Of course not, the Vicar won't be back until after the sale starts so he'll never know."

Mary. "Well I don't think it's right to lie about it, especially to a Vicar."

Irene. "You're right of course love, but do you really want to tidy it all up just so the customers can mess it up again"?

(Mary shakes her head.)

Christine. "Good. Now that's sorted how much do we charge for this stuff"?

Judith. "Tell them everything's a pound and work from there."

Irene. "We can't charge a pound for an old book or CD, no one will pay that."

Judith. "No they won't, but if you start there and then let them have it for 25p they'll think they have a bargain"!

Mary. "That's awful, it's cheating."

Christine. "Not really love, just what they do in all the shops and supermarkets and no one moans there when they see something marked down.
