Context
Having not seen the father of her child for a long time, Christina has gone out of the family house to find Gerry Evans walking up the lane towards her. He is a transient, free spirit who wanders in and out of her life. Despite his promises, he never proposes or settles down with Christina and their son, Michael. Christina clings on the possibility that Gerry might, one day, stay and is very excited to see him. The romance and affection between them is still present and obvious to see.
