Start: Later that night. Ruth’s apartment. Ruth, wearing a cardigan over pajamas, stands at the window. Lisa opens the door but the chain is on.
Lisa: Damn. (Calls) Ruth? Ruth, are you all right? (Waits) Ruth?
Ruth: Yes?
Lisa: Ruth. Thank God. Open the door; the chain is on.
End: Lisa: Ruth, please We can talk about this.
Ruth: Look, do me a favor, take out the trash with you, I’ve got a leaky bag.
(Silence. Lisa goes to the kitchen, returns with the trash bag and looks at Ruth for a long beat; Ruth’s back is to her. Silence.)
Lisa: Ruth . . . ?
Ruth: (Still facing away) Go home.
