Context
Ken and Chris Gorman, a pair of New York lawyers (and husband and wife), are attending a dinner party hosted by Charley Brock, the city's Deputy Mayor. The two were the first to arrive to his upscale home in the Palisades, and they aren't prepared for what they find: Charley has shot himself. Luckily, he's alright; what appears to have been a suicide attempt backfired, and he's sustained a gunshot wound to the earlobe.
