Context
Lady Macbeth has come up with a plan to murder King Duncan so that her husband, Macbeth, can become the next king. However, Macbeth has been musing over her plans and reveals his doubts about it to his wife. Full of ruthless ambition for her husband, Lady Macbeth mocks and criticizes her husband’s weaknesses to get him to agree to carry out her plan. Spurred on by her comment, Macbeth agrees that he must murder the King to snatch the crown and become the next King.

If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well
It were done quickly: if the assassination
Could trammel up the consequence, and catch
With his surcease success; that but this blow
Might be the be-all and the end-all here,
