Overview

Synopsis

Three sophisticates, Mother (Phyllis), Aunt (Sylvia) and Phyllis’ daughter (Ramona), are enamored with a pompous poet, Upton Gabbitt. Meanwhile, Ramona’s younger sister, Betty, is in love with a hard-working common man, Dicky. The three sophisticates want Betty to end up with Upton. However, Betty’s father (Henry) and uncle want her to marry Dicky. Thus, Phyllis and Henry duel it out to see who is truly in control of the Crystal household. The play is set in a penthouse on Park Avenue, New York City in 1936.
