Overview

Synopsis

Abe Lincoln in Illinois is the tale of the life of the American president, before he actually becomes president. At a young age, Abraham Lincoln learns of the problems of sectionalism in the United States, and has a great desire to end it. Despite his bright mind and passion, Lincoln runs into many challenges along the way. When his fiancee, Ann Rutledge, dies, he ends up marrying Mary Todd, instead. He runs for office against Stephen Douglas, but he loses. Eventually, he wins the 1860 presidential election, though problems with the integrity of the United States and his wife's mental health continue to plague him as he travels to Washington D.C.
