Writers: Gordon Greenberg Chad Hodge Irving Berlin

Plot

Act One

It is August 1946, and performing trio Jim Hardy, Ted Hanover, and Lila Dixon have just finished a show in a NYC club (“Steppin' Out With My Baby / I'll Capture Her Heart”). After the show, Jim proposes to Lila, his girlfriend of two years, and reveals that he has bought a farmhouse in the Connecticut countryside for them where they can retire from show business and raise a family (“The Little Things in Life”). Right after, Ted arrives backstage with Danny, their manager, in tow, and reveals that the trio booked a six-week tour ending at the famed Pump Room in Chicago. Jim needs to go to the farm to take ownership right away, but Lila and Ted refuse to pass up the opportunity to possibly make it big. Jim is hesitant but eventually, they all agree that Lila and Ted should do the tour, and Lila promises to return to the farm after the six weeks are over to begin their new life together. Jim, eager to start his new life, moves to Midville, Connecticut (“Blue Skies”).
