Honeymoon in Vegas is a comedic eye-popping spectacle based on the film of the same name. The musical follows its characters through New York, Las Vegas, and Hawaii as they grapple with past relationship traumas and future expectations.
Jack Singer and Betsy Nolan have been dating for five years. Though marriage is their logical next step, the two are not equally ready. Betsy reasons she has been patient for long enough and craves immediate commitment. Jack, on the other hand, genuinely wants to marry Betsy but cannot rid himself of the guilt he would feel for disobeying his mother’s dying wish to never get married. In an effort to finally bind the relationship and avoid second guessing the decision, Jack agrees to spontaneously get married in Las Vegas. Once in Vegas, Jack loses $58,000 in a poker game against Tommy, a slimy professional gambler who is secretly interested in stealing Betsy away from Jack. What follows is a surprising sequence of events in which Tommy proposes taking a weekend with Betsy instead of the money, which Jack never had in the first place. Naturally, Betsy is furious at Jack for using her as a bargaining chip, but begins to like Tommy and the stability he offers her on her own. When Tommy takes Betsy on a trip to Hawaii, he lies and tells her the poker arrangement he made with Jack was agreed upon over a discrepancy of $800 rather than $58,000 in an effort to win Betsy over for good. Enraged at Jack, Betsy decides to impulsively marry Tommy in Vegas. During this time, Jack realizes the depth of his mistakes and flies to Hawaii to win Betsy back, but he is led astray by Tommy’s people. After learning of Betsy’s plan to marry Tommy, Jack quickly stows away on a flight back to Vegas with numerous Elvis impersonators. Back in Vegas, Betsy realizes her decision to marry Tommy is too rash and tells him she has changed her mind. Rather than respecting her decision, Tommy desperately offers Betsy a million dollars to marry him before Jack gets to Vegas. Betsy is disgusted at Tommy, but is happily reunited with Jack when he skydives to her as an Elvis impersonator. In the end, Jack and Betsy finally get married, and are more grounded in their love for each other than ever before. Honeymoon in Vegas is a testament to the resilient and fateful nature of true love, in spite of external pressures or temptations.
