bare premiered at the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles, CA under its original title, bare: a pop opera, in October 2000. Although it was initially scheduled for a short, four-week run, bare: a pop opera was an instant sensation and ran for another four months after opening. The production took home the L.A. Weekly Award for Best Musical, the Ovation Award for Best Musical and the L.A. Drama Critics Award for Best Score. bare then moved to New York, where it opened off-Broadway at the American Theater of Actors in 2004.
