Plot

Act One

The musical opens with a performance by the upcoming band 'No Vacancy'. Their guitarist, Dewey Finn, attempts to upstage the lead singer by introducing a wild guitar solo into their song ("I'm Too Hot for You”). The rest of the band has had enough, as Dewey storms off the stage. The following morning, Dewey’s flatmate, Ned Schneebly, bickers with his domineering girlfriend, Patty Di Marco, about Dewey’s disgusting habits around the flat. Despite Ned’s warnings, she decides to wake him up and demand the rent...while Ned timidly cowers behind her. Dewey brushes them off and belittles their jobs. After Patty leaves, Dewey asks Ned why he can’t carry on freeloading in his flat. It turns out that Ned is worried he may never get another girlfriend so he needs Dewey to pay rent and get Patty off his back.

Finally getting out of bed, Dewey goes along to his rehearsal with 'No Vacancy'. Despite the fact that he brought the band together, his crazy antics have induced the band to
