Plot

Act One

The story begins with the narrator, a talking snowman named Sam, revealing that there once was a year where Christmas was almost canceled. He shows us the merriest place on Earth, Christmastown which resides at the North Pole, of course! Here is where Santa lives and works, preparing with his Elves for a successful Christmas. He enters along with his wife, Mrs. Claus. They are arguing over if Santa has had enough to eat in preparation for the Christmas season. Sam can’t help but be in awe of how full of wonder and excitement the Christmas season is (“A Holly, Jolly Christmas”).

One of Santa’s trusted reindeer, Donner, and his wife, Mrs. Donner have just welcomed their new baby boy, Rudolph. They notice that something about him isn’t quite right, his nose glows bright red! This worries Donner, who wants his son to follow in his footsteps and fly Santa’s sleigh. Santa assures Donner that as long as this little quirk sorts itself out by the time he is older Rudolph would still
