The Full Monty

Musical

Writers: Terrence McNally David Yazbek

Plot

Act One

In Buffalo, New York, the recession has hit and local steelworkers have been laid off from their jobs at the steel factory. However, the women of the town are determined to have a bit of fun while they support their husbands. They find that fun onstage at Tony Giordano’s club. Going along to the ‘Girls’ Night Out’, they are entertained by Buddy “Keno” Walsh, a successful male stripper who has the body of a god and makes a lot of money for revealing all of it. Meanwhile, the men of the town have headed to the union meeting house to collect their weekly unemployment checks. They are miserable and fed up with their situation. Jerry Lukowski commiserates with his best friend, Dave Bukatinsky, who is also out of work. As they wallow in their misery, they are joined by Ethan Girard and Malcolm McGregor (“Scrap”).

After leaving the union meeting house, Jerry takes his twelve-year-old son, Nathan, back to the bus stop so that he can return to his mother, Jerry’s estranged wife.
