Pandora’s Box is the second half of Frank Wedekind’s Lulu plays, the first half being Earth Spirit. It continues the story of a young woman named Lulu, who murdered a man named Dr. Schon, and has been rotting in jail. A wealthy countess named Martha Geschwitz, who is obsessively in love with Lulu, bands together a group of men who help her break out and escape to Paris. Once free, Lulu marries Alva, the son of the man she murdered. We follow Lulu and Alva as they run from the law, make money in stocks, lose it all and, more than once, are threatened with blackmail. Lulu, with her charming and manipulative personality, continues to escape trouble with the help of those around her who are sucked into her spell and will do anything for her. Finally, however, she finds herself in a dingy attic apartment in London, selling her body for money, eventually leading to her death and the death of her followers at the hands of the infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper.
