Overview

Synopsis

Boleros for the Disenchanted follows the sweeping love story of Flora and Eusebio, beginning in 1950s Puerto Rico where Flora, betrayed by a former fiancé, meets the charming and steadfast Eusebio. Their courtship is marked by both tender romance and the weight of family, tradition, and faith, as they navigate the complexities of love in a conservative society.

The play then shifts to Alabama in the early 2000s, where Flora and Eusebio, now in their later years, reflect on the endurance of their marriage in the face of hardship, sacrifice, and disillusionment. Rivera weaves a tale that blends realism with a touch of poetic fantasy, examining how youthful passion transforms into the resilience, compromises, and quiet devotion of a lifetime together.
