Overview
Synopsis
The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told reimagines biblical history through a playful and heartfelt lens. In this version of creation, a Stage Manager—serving as both guide and omnipotent narrator—ushers in the beginning of time. Instead of Adam and Eve, the first humans are Adam and Steve, along with Jane and Mabel, two women who join them in forming the foundation of a new civilization. Together, the four navigate iconic moments from the Old Testament, including life in the Garden of Eden, a journey on Noah’s Ark, and a visit with a spirited Pharaoh. As they experience these adventures, the characters reflect on questions of belief, community, and the nature of divinity itself.
In Act Two, the story leaps forward to contemporary New York City. Adam and Steve are reunited, facing the challenges of modern life and reflecting on the passage of time. Jane is now pregnant, and she and Mabel are preparing to marry, hoping Adam and Steve will take part in their ceremony. As the group gathers on Christmas Eve, their shared history and deep connections come to the forefront. A rabbi—warm, unconventional, and wise—arrives to officiate, helping the characters find meaning, joy, and comfort in the midst of life’s complexities.
Blending satire with sincerity, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told is a celebration of enduring love, chosen family, and spiritual exploration across the ages.
