Plot

Act One

Ned Week, a middle-aged, gay man arrives at a hospital to begin experimental treatment in the fight against AIDS. He has HIV, but has never become terminally ill, unlike the majority of his friends and acquaintances with the disease. However, the people he comes to for help are the very same people he has loudly criticized in the press for their lack of progress. Nurse Hanniman finds it hard to believe that Ned does not have a devious scheme up his sleeve, but Dr. Anthony Della Vida (Tony) realizes that Ned is now desperate and he could be a useful champion of their work if the treatment works. As Ned begins the first stages of treatment, young Alexander appears, wondering why his older self is willingly submitting to huge needles going into his backside. Alexander refuses to accept that his older self might die and wonders how he messed up his life so much. He moves into his childhood bedroom and shows his theatrical optimism as he dreams of winning an Academy Award and
