Overview
Synopsis
James Still’s aching ensemble drama takes audiences through one of the worst periods in history. And Then They Came for Me uses multimedia to recreate the experiences of two real Holocaust survivors, Eva Schloss and Ed Silverberg, as their lives become upended by Nazi brutality during World War II. As oral histories by the real Eva and Ed play on video, live actors playing them as children speak to the audience and act out scenes. Casting is flexible, and productions can use four actors or six actors. Specific doubling recommendations are listed for both. And Then They Came for Me is fitting for high school use in the classroom or as a production. Community theatres might also consider producing the play to spur a dialogue about the Holocaust.
