Overview

Synopsis

Deceptions abound in John Fletcher’s Jacobean comedy. Margarita is a wealthy woman who wants to enjoy romantic escapades. With her faithful attendant Altea, she comes up with a scheme to indulge her romantic appetite without staining her reputation: she will marry Leon, a foolish soldier who seems more than willing to submit to her. Meanwhile, Margarita’s maid, Estifania, has married Michael Perez, a soldier. Both are pretending to be wealthy.

But schemes unravel when Perez and Estifania learn the truth about each other as Margarita discovers that Leon is not the submissive fool she took him for. Can these haphazard matches survive?
