Overview

Synopsis

e-baby is the story of Catherine, a 45-year-old Australian expat lawyer living in London with her husband, and her relationship with Nellie, 34, the naïve married mother of two and first-time surrogate she hires in the US in a final attempt to achieve her dream of motherhood.

Together, they forge an unlikely friendship as they embark on a funny, heart-wrenching and poignant journey that challenges Catherine’s commitment to social justice and Nellie’s religious beliefs.

Featuring two iconic female characters, e-baby is a story of love and betrayal, obsession and entitlement highlighting the hitherto hidden world of surrogacy.

A story of our times, e-baby is a compassionate and feminist examination on one of the most intimate relationships that exists today. It will make you cry, laugh and think. The central question posed by the play - how far would you go to have a child? - is one that audiences emerge hotly debating.
