Whether you are looking for professional training or for a place to explore your artistic side, our classes and productions will strengthen your art and craft and deepen your understanding and appreciation of your own creativity.

You'll have unparalleled access to working with the very best theater professionals as guest artists and designers -- all of whom have Broadway and Off-Broadway credentials. This means that our students graduate with real-world experiences and immediate connections to the performance industry.
Student-focused, hands-on coursework in the Theatre Department encompasses all the arts — literary, performing, visual, digital and electronic. Southern’s close proximity to New Haven and New York City connects students to vibrant performance industries and practical training, and prepares them for a multitude of professions, from employment with touring companies and cruise lines, to careers with television/film studios and commercial theaters. Internship opportunities include: Long Wharf Theatre, Hartford Stage, The Elm Shakespeare Company, and Godspeed Musicals and the New Haven public schools.
