The New World School of the Arts Department of Theater is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
Students learn their craft through acting technique, movement and speech classes. Their training on the classical texts and the principles of drama as well as make practical incursions into the contemporary and experimental edges of theater. Performance is an essential part of the training, and it is approached in a sequential, progressive manner to give the student vision, strength and a sense of purpose in the theater. College freshmen perform in a Discovery Play Project at the beginning of the year. Sophomores perform in a full-length play in the studio theater. Juniors perform a full-length classical play in the studio. Every graduating senior presents a performing thesis, creating, directing and acting in a thirty-minute one-person show. Music theater students present, in addition, a one-half hour public recital.
